BLOG TOPIC: Week 9: Media Ethics/Media Law

In 2011, Limewire was sued and shut down for copyright infringement. Limewire was sued for assisting users in pirating digital recordings by music publishers. More then 30 music publishers were included in this case. I think it was a good thing that they were shut down because music artists should be paid for their work. No one should work for nothing and that was what Limewire was doing. Limewire was allowing people to download files of movies and music for free and in my opinion thats not right. From music artists to actors to regular joes, everyone should be paid for what they do.

Week 8: Propaganda in Advertising/PR

Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position so as to benefit oneself.

Bandwagon
Bandwagon and "inevitable-victory" appeals attempt to persuade the target audience to join in and take the course of action that "everyone else is taking".
- In the Hyundai commercial they said that " What if we always settled for the first thing that came along? " and it showed that everyone was using the same thing old thing.
Join the crowd
This technique reinforces people's natural desire to be on the winning side. This technique is used to convince the audience that a program is an expression of an irresistible mass movement and that it is in their best interest to join.
- At the end of the commercial they said, " Then we would have never gotten here, " and introduced the Hyundai Sonota Hybrid.

week 7

During middle school through sophomore year I believe I was addicted to video games. The game was called "Diablo 2," its an online internet RPG. This kind of took over my life, I went to school and went straight home to play games. This didn't effect my school life or anything, I was an honors student. This just took up my social life. All I did was play games right when I got home from school at 3 til maybe 2-4 in the morning. I didn't really go outside, like at all. I never went to the mall to hang out til I was like in senior year of high school. Playing this game just really took my social life away, but at that time I didn't really care. My mom was always yelling at me to get off the computer and go outside or s go do something else, but I didn't really listen. It got to the point where she had to take the game CD away from me and only allow me to play for a certain duration of the day. I eventually slowed down in junior year when I joined the wrestling team and classes got a little harder. Wrestling later on became priority and I sold my items online for money. Until now I still haven't played that game, thank goodness.

This is a video of a kid going CRAZY because his parents cancelled his "World of Warcraft" account. This is a clear example of a video game addict.

I though this one was funny because this game does actually get some guys into playing non stop.

Blog 5 Movie

My favorite movie of 2010-2011 was called "No Strings Attatched." I really liked this movie because it had it was hilarious, it had a romantic, and I could relate to some of the relationship things that were going on in the movie. Also it was really heart warming. I really like watching romantic comedies.

My favorite all-time movie has to be "Titanic." This might seem corny for a "Titanic" to be a guys all-time favorite movie but yes it is mines. "Titanic" was EPIC! It wasn't a 90 minute movie, but it was 194 minutes of awesomeness. It had it all, a love story, ton of action, betrayal, sex, violence, it was butt clenching, and last but not least it ended with a bang, the whole ship sinks!

books

I don't really read much books but I think the 3 most influential books to me are Death Note: The Las Angelas B.B. Murder Case, Of Mice and Men, and There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom. Death Note: The Las Angelas B.B. Murder Case was really intense. This was the only book that really got me reading page after page. This book was is filled with mystery, detective work, vivid information, like I actually felt like it was happening right in front of me. This book is VERY detailed. The book Of Mice and Men really good too. It taught me a lot about friendship and that it doesn't matter what the person looks like, their race, or anything of the matter, the only thing that matters is how loyal he is to you. This book was also a page turner for me because of how good the story was going. I always wanted to know whats going to happen next. The book "There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom" was the very first book I've read. I read it in elementary school. This book actually made me push myself into doing the best I can in school, because the thought of being held back a grade was the scariest thing to me.

WEEEK 2

I heard about people complaining about how they wanted to be in love or have a relationship with someone they can love with. The media bombarded us about romance since we've been watching t.v. The media makes people try to believe that you have one soul mate, one lover that you will love for the rest of your life. In television, music, and even the news they allude to us that love is real and it makes everyone happy. For the example " I Love New York" on MTV. They had a woman being indulged by a bunch of random guys and in the end she falls in love with one of them. Or the other reality show, " The Bachelorette" they had a bunch of girls try to woo a man over and in the end he will marry her because he fell in love with her.

The media digs a hole into our brains making us believe that love is real and everyone needs it. Another example would be Romeo and Juliet, they one met once in their life and somehow they just knew they were soul mates. The media makes us feel like we need someone in our life to lean on to and someone we can have reassurance to. I know a real life situation, where my friend was trippin' really hard when his girlfriend dumped him. Whenever we would drink, he would break down in tears. I tell him whats wrong with you there are plenty of other girls everywhere. He just replies, "I don't care, I fucking love her!" I believe the media really did play a role for him breaking down so hard because it was his first girlfriend and in our group of friends everyone has a girlfriend. So I think he believed that he had to have a girlfriend and the first girl that ever gave him that much attention was the only one for him.

A video that just described to us about how the media ruined you life with love.

Media Autobiography

My background for books are really vague. I wasn't into the whole reading thing throughout school. The only time I read was when I was forced to read a book that the was being discussed about in class. I never  really read casually, but I'm starting to read more. I'm not a big fan on newspapers also, I only look at the ads from time to time. I only read newspapers when I had to do current events for school. Also I don't like reading newspapers because they make my hands dirty. The only magazines I mainly l read are Esquire, tattoo magazines, and magazines about cars. Sometimes I read my girlfriends magazines too. I really like to watch movies. I really like comedy, romance, and mind-boggling ones. The best movie I saw in 2011 was "No Strings Attached" starring Ashton Kutcher and Nathalie Portman. I'm not a fan of gore and horror, I can't really take that kind of stuff. I listen to the radio everyday when I drive. I only listen to music though, I don't really listen to anything else. I think car rides would be so BORING if there was no music playing. I used to watch the t.v. everyday but now I'm usually out. I used to watch a lot of cartoon stations like nickalodeon and cartoon network. Now from time to time I watch things like Spike, Fox, ESPN, MTV, VH1, and other reality shows. I don't really watch the news, except when my parents are watching. I use the internet everyday. I think the internet is one of the best technology in the world. I read online, I watch movies online, I use Facebook a lot, I go online shopping and basically I do everything online.
